According to the latest weather advisory from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), Pakistan is bracing for a cold wave next week due to anticipated rain and snowfall in mountainous regions of the country.
The PMD stated that a westerly weather system is expected to make its way into the upper parts on the evening of October 13, spreading to upper and central areas on the night of October 14.
Here’s what to expect:
- From the evening of October 13 to October 17, intermittent rain with wind thunderstorms are predicted in upper areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, and several others.
- Moderate to isolated heavy falls are anticipated in various parts of Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan.
- Areas like Islamabad, Potohar region, Murree, and several others will also experience similar weather conditions during this period.
- Snowfall is expected in the high mountains of KP, Kashmir, and GB, along with isolated hailstorms in the plains of KP.
In Sindh and Balochistan, rain with wind and thunderstorms is expected on October 17 and 18 in various regions.
Potential Impacts:
- Significant drops in temperatures are anticipated.
- Water flows in local streams and nullahs may increase, potentially leading to landslides in vulnerable areas.
- Urban flooding may occur in Rawalpindi and Lahore on October 15 and 16.
The Met Office advises farmers to adjust their crop activities accordingly, and advises caution for tourists and travelers during this forecasted period.
