The Meteorological Department has updated Karachi’s rainfall records as of 11 PM, identifying Gulshan-e-Hadeed as the city’s wettest area with 42 millimeters of rain. Nazimabad followed with 26 millimeters, while Surjani Town recorded 25.4 millimeters. Saddar experienced 13 millimeters, and PAF Faisal Base registered 12 millimeters of rainfall.
The department predicts that Karachi will continue to experience rain, fueled by a powerful monsoon system expected to persist from August 27 to 31. In preparation for this, a rain emergency cell has been activated at the Chief Minister’s House. The city has already been hit by thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy downpours this evening.
Meteorologist Sarfraz Ahmed has cautioned that Karachi could receive between 150 and 200 millimeters of rain, raising the possibility of urban flooding between August 28 and 30. In response, Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed all municipal authorities, district administration, and the irrigation department to be on high alert and ready to respond swiftly to any emergencies caused by the anticipated heavy rains.
