Imran Khan Granted Bail in Toshakhana 2 Case by Islamabad High Court
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has granted bail to PTI Founder Imran Khan in the Toshakhana 2 case. The decision was made by Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, who allowed the bail after hearing arguments from both sides.
Defence lawyer Salman Safdar informed the court that the statement being referred to in the case was recorded by the NAB investigation officer, but the matter has now been transferred to the FIA for further proceedings. In response, the FIA prosecutor clarified that statements under Section 164 are recorded before a magistrate, and explained that following the change in the law, the case shifted from NAB to FIA jurisdiction.
Justice Aurangzeb raised a question regarding the three Customs officers who had miscalculated the value of the items in question, asking why no action had been taken against them. The FIA prosecutor admitted that the officers were negligent, but argued it did not amount to criminal misconduct. He also revealed that NAB had not recommended any departmental action against the officers.
In a light-hearted moment, Justice Aurangzeb remarked, “Let’s just say that they are very good people,” prompting laughter in the courtroom.
The court directed Imran Khan to submit bail bonds of Rs1 million each and to appear in the trial court after his release. The court warned that if Khan fails to cooperate during the trial, his bail could be revoked.
However, Imran Khan’s release from Adiala Jail is still pending due to an outstanding issue. While his bail bonds in seven other cases related to the May 9 events have been submitted, the bonds for five additional cases remain unsubmitted.
