Despite Karachi’s relatively mild weather, chicken meat and egg prices have soared, adding to the financial burden on residents.
In the past week, chicken meat prices have risen sharply from Rs530 to Rs660 per kilogram, an increase of Rs130. Eggs are now retailing at Rs380 per dozen, significantly higher than the official rate of Rs344. Wholesale prices for eggs have also spiked, reaching up to Rs650 per dozen.
Shopkeepers attribute the price hike to supply constraints and anticipated demand as winter approaches. A poultry trader in Karachi’s main market noted, “These increases are primarily due to supply issues and preparations for colder months.”
Citizens, however, are frustrated by the unchecked inflation. “Essential items get more expensive every week, and there’s no action from price control authorities,” lamented a Saddar resident.
If the weather grows colder, further price increases are expected, intensifying concerns among consumers.
