The Director General of the Federal Directorate of Education (FDE) is anticipated to announce the winter vacations for educational institutions in Islamabad for the year 2024. As is customary, the federal authority is expected to declare a winter break from December 21 to December 29, with schools reopening on December 30. This one-week holiday is typically granted to protect students from the extreme cold weather.
However, there is a possibility that the winter break could be extended through December 31, with schools reopening on January 1 (Wednesday). Additionally, the FDE may revise school timings after the winter vacation period to adjust to the seasonal changes.
Last year, the FDE had declared winter vacations from December 25 to December 31, marking a similar holiday period for all educational institutions in Islamabad.
Winter Vacations in Punjab:
In Punjab, schools and other educational institutions are usually closed for around two weeks to shield students from the harsh winter conditions. The Schools Education Department generally announces the winter break in December, with schools reopening in January.
Given the sharp temperature drop, often ranging between 7 to 8°C, along with dense fog in Punjab during December, it becomes challenging for children to safely commute to and attend school. As such, the Punjab government is expected to announce winter vacations beginning December 21 (Saturday), with schools resuming on January 1 (Wednesday).
However, the final decision on the holiday schedule for both public and private schools will be made by the education department after considering the prevailing weather conditions. Last year, winter vacations were initially announced from December 18 to December 31, but the break was later extended to January 9, 2024 due to the ongoing cold weather.
As we approach winter, families in Islamabad and Punjab should stay informed about official announcements regarding school holidays to plan accordingly.
