Karachi’s electricity consumers may soon experience significant relief in their bills, as K-Electric has proposed a reduction of up to Rs4.98 per unit in electricity charges under the November fuel price adjustment.
The power utility has formally submitted its request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), which is set to review the proposal during a hearing on January 15, 2025. If approved, the adjustment could provide a total relief of Rs7.17 billion to consumers in Karachi.
The request is part of the monthly fuel price adjustment mechanism, which allows electricity tariffs to be modified in response to fluctuations in fuel costs. Should NEPRA grant approval, Karachi’s households and businesses will benefit from lower electricity bills, offering much-needed financial relief.
