In what could further strain the inflation-burdened public, petroleum prices in Pakistan are expected to rise starting January 1, 2025, with diesel prices likely seeing an increase of over Rs4 per litre.
Sources within the Petroleum Division revealed on Saturday that while petrol prices may remain stable, kerosene oil could see a price hike of Rs1 per litre.
The final decision regarding the price adjustments will be announced on December 31, following discussions between the finance minister and the prime minister. The changes will be made public after receiving approval from the prime minister.
Earlier, on December 15, the government led by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced revised petrol and diesel prices for the upcoming fortnight. Petrol prices were kept unchanged at Rs252.10 per litre, while high-speed diesel saw a reduction of Rs3.05 per litre, bringing its new price to Rs255.38 per litre.
Additionally, the price of kerosene oil was reduced by Rs3.32 per litre, now priced at Rs161.66 per litre, and light diesel oil dropped by Rs2.78 per litre, with a new price of Rs148.95 per litre.
