The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a cyclone alert as a low-pressure system gains momentum in the Arabian Sea, situated approximately 1,700 kilometers away from the Pakistani coastline.
According to the Met Office, this low-pressure system is poised to intensify into a cyclonic storm within the next 24 hours, owing to favorable environmental conditions.
Projections indicate that the cyclonic storm will chart a course toward the southern coasts of Oman and Yemen.
However, the PMD has clarified that Pakistan’s coastal areas are unlikely to be directly impacted by this system. As it tracks west-northwestward, Karachi and other coastal regions are not anticipated to face any significant effects.
Named Cyclone Tej, this marks the second such weather phenomenon in the Arabian Sea this year. Earlier in June, Cyclone Biparjoy made landfall between the Sindh and Gujarat coasts of Pakistan and India after initially moving in a north-northwest direction.
