The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office in Lahore, in a coordinated effort with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle, carried out successful operations against two franchisees of a mobile phone company situated in Lala Musa. These franchisees were discovered to be engaged in the unauthorized distribution of SIM cards.
During the operation, officials confiscated a laptop, a mobile phone, 48 Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices, 48 SIM cards, and silicon thumbs as evidence. Additionally, two individuals were apprehended on the premises by the FIA team. The FIA is currently conducting further investigations into the matter. Earlier, PTA had lodged complaints with FIA based on intelligence regarding the illicit issuance of SIM cards through these sales channels. A similar operation was also carried out in Kasur by the same team a few days prior.
These operations are part of PTA’s continuous endeavors to curb any attempts to bypass the Multi-Finger Biometric Verification System (MBVS). This steadfast commitment underscores the Authority’s determination to eliminate the unlawful distribution of SIM cards.
