Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday strongly rejected allegations against Saudi Arabia, calling them unacceptable and reaffirming Pakistan’s deep and unwavering relationship with the Kingdom.
Speaking in Taunsa, PM Shehbaz emphasized that the people of Pakistan would not tolerate any attempts to damage the long-standing ties between the two countries. “Saudi Arabia has always stood by Pakistan, offering unwavering support without asking for anything in return,” he stated.
The Prime Minister also praised Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman, mentioning that the prince had urged him to initiate projects, showing continued interest in strengthening bilateral relations. “Instead of expressing goodwill towards Saudi Arabia, the controversial statement was made,” PM Shehbaz said, referring to recent remarks that sparked tensions.
He also highlighted the Kingdom’s consistent support for Pakistan, noting its key role in helping the country secure an International Monetary Fund (IMF) bailout and providing free oil during the sanctions imposed following Pakistan’s nuclear tests.
PM Shehbaz took a veiled dig at former first lady Bushra Bibi, criticizing the hostile statements against Saudi Arabia. He recalled that Saudi Arabia had never asked for anything in return for its support over the past 77 years. “It was King Abdullah who once said to Nawaz Sharif, ‘You are my brother,'” he added.
The Prime Minister further emphasized that Saudi Arabia is a vital ally of Pakistan and expressed gratitude for its continuous support.
Turning to domestic issues, PM Shehbaz discussed ongoing projects in Balochistan, including a solarization initiative for the province’s tube wells. He commended Balochistan’s Chief Minister, Sarfaraz Bugti, for promoting meritocracy in the region.
The Prime Minister also reflected on the devastating flash floods of 2022, noting that the Kacchi Canal had suffered significant damage. He credited Nawaz Sharif for his leadership in the Kacchi Canal project, while pointing out that it had been harmed during Pervez Musharraf’s tenure.
