At least 39 people have been killed, and 28 others, including women, have been injured in an attack on a convoy of passenger vehicles in the Uchat area of Lower Kurram.
The convoy, traveling from Parachinar to Peshawar, was ambushed by armed men who opened fire with automatic weapons. The attack occurred as the convoy, consisting of around 200 vehicles, reached the Mandori Charkhil and Uchat areas. Seven women, including a nine-year-old girl, were among those killed. Among the injured were three women and a police officer.
According to sources from the police and hospitals, the convoy was attacked indiscriminately, causing significant casualties. Hospital officials confirmed that the bodies of five victims, including one woman, were transported to Alizai, while eight injured individuals were taken to Mandori hospital for treatment. Additionally, 12 of the injured, including two women, were transferred to CMH Tal, and 16 others were admitted to Alizai Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.
Bangash, the leader of the Turi Bangash tribe, called for immediate action to evacuate the remaining stranded passengers and ensure the safety of the injured. Tribal leaders Jalal Bangash and Allama Tajammul Hussain condemned the attack, emphasizing that they had been urging the government for months to secure the transportation routes. Two weeks ago, more than 100,000 people organized a peaceful protest walk from Parachinar to Peshawar and Islamabad, demanding safer passage for travelers. Despite these efforts, the lack of effective security measures led to this tragic incident.
