The interim government in Pakistan has taken a significant step to ease the burden on people grappling with soaring prices of essential commodities.
They have notably reduced the prices of well-known ghee brands available at Utility Stores by Rs60, bringing it down to Rs394 per kilogram.
This marks a considerable drop from the previous rate of Rs455. Even less renowned brands were experiencing high prices.
In tandem with this reduction, the prices of cooking oil have also been lowered, despite the prevailing high inflation rates in the nation.
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) based inflation surged to 31.4 percent in September 2023 compared to the same month the previous year, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
This follows a rise to 27.4 percent in August 2023, while in September 2022, it stood at 23.2 percent.
On a month-to-month basis, the inflation rate rose to 2.0 percent in September 2023, up from 1.7 percent in the preceding month, and a decline of 1.2 percent in September 2022. These measures are aimed at providing economic relief to citizens amidst the ongoing economic challenges in the country.
