The Punjab government, in its efforts to combat a severe smog crisis, has opted for a four-day holiday in the province, according to interim provincial chief minister Mohsin Naqvi. He announced this decision during a press conference, stating that the holidays will be observed starting from Thursday (which is also Iqbal Day, a national holiday) and will extend till Sunday. The aim is to alleviate the smog problem.
Last month, authorities in the province had considered implementing an additional weekly day off, but with some improvement in the situation, they decided against it, noting that they would continue to monitor the conditions.
Furthermore, due to the escalating smog situation, the caretaker Punjab government has also mandated the closure of schools across the province, beginning from Thursday. This decision has been approved by the caretaker cabinet, with the aim of safeguarding citizens from the detrimental effects of the pollution.
