Joe Tracini is an English actor, presenter and author. He appeared in the role of Dennis Savage in the Channel 4 soap opera Hollyoaks. His previous TV acting credits have included the BBC Three comedy series Coming of Age and the Boomerang children’s sitcom My Spy Family. Tracini is an English actor, presenter and author.
Hollyoaks actor Joe Tracini ‘still feels mental most days’ as he waits for ‘the old me’ to return.
The 34-year-old played Dennis Savage in the Channel 4 soap from 2011 to 2014 and for a brief stint in 2018.
Over the years, he has taken part in numerous theater shows and also wrote a popular book called “Ten Things I Hate About Me,” where he shares his journey of living with Borderline Personality Disorder.
In 2019, Joe received a diagnosis, and he has openly shared that he made five attempts to end his life.
He’s now shared more details about his mental health and how it was severely affected during the pandemic.
During an appearance on Lorraine on Tuesday, Joe shared how being on stage was a ‘break’ and made him feel ‘safe’.
‘I still feel the most mental you could possibly be most days, especially at the moment,’ he said.
‘I’ve not been able to adjust into the world since the lockdowns and stuff like that.
‘I am not the same person I used to be, and I think that is why I am still struggling and am waiting for the old me to turn up, but I didn’t go anywhere, I am still sat here.’
Beverley Callard, a former Coronation Street actor who will be performing alongside Joe in the upcoming Sleeping Beauty pantomime, shared some kind and reassuring words.
‘The old you was fantastic but the new you is too,’ she reassured him.
In 2021, Joe wrote a heartfelt article with the goal of giving hope to people who were dealing with mental health challenges.
‘You are definitely not hopeless. You might feel like you are, because if you’re looking for hope it means you had some but you lost it,’ he wrote.
‘You might have less hope now than you’ve had in the past, but you’re not hopeless.’
He told everyone that he used to be addicted to drugs but has been drug-free for eight years. He also had a problem with drinking but has been sober for six years.
He mentioned that he deals with constant thoughts of wanting to end his life but encouraged others not to do it. He wanted them to know that he cared about them and hoped they were doing okay. Since then, Joe has been keeping his followers updated on how he’s doing through social media.
