KARACHI – Heatwave will continue to persist in Karachi, Hyderabad and parts of Sindh on Thursday and Friday, says the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
Right now, most of Pakistan is experiencing air from the land. In the upper atmosphere, there’s strong pressure, especially in the southern areas. By Friday night, a weather system called a “westerly wave” is expected to come in from the west, first hitting the western parts of the country. On Saturday, it’s likely to affect the northern areas.
In the coming days, the daytime temperatures in Hyderabad and many other areas will be 3-5 degrees Celsius higher than usual. However, some places like Sukkur, Jacobabad, and others might experience rain, wind, or thunderstorms on Friday night and Saturday. These conditions will help cool things down and bring temperatures back to normal.
Medical experts have advised general public to stay indoors and avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight. They suggested extra care for the children and elderly people.
Karachi’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 36-38°C on Thursday and 35-37°C Friday.
Hyderabad’s maximum temperatures will likely remain between 43-45°C on Thursday and 42-44°C Friday.
During the past day, a strong heatwave hit upper and central districts of Sindh. Nawabshah and Dadu were the hottest areas, with temperatures reaching as high as 48°C.
In Karachi, maximum temperature was recorded at 37°C. Relative humidity during the evening was recorded at 75 per cent.
