Inzamam ul Haq, the Chief Selector of the Pakistan cricket team, has resigned from his position during the 2023 World Cup following allegations of a “clash of interest.”
Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has decided to step down from his role as the chief selector of the Men’s cricket team. Inzamam, a renowned right-handed middle-order batsman, was recently appointed to lead the selection committee for the national team, with a contract for a three-year term at a salary of Rs2.5 million. However, due to differences with the top management of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and criticism from various quarters following the disappointing performance of the team led by Babar Azam in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, he has chosen to resign.
Inzamam-ul-Haq addressed the situation, stating, “People speak without research. Questions were raised on me so I decided that it was better I resign.” According to Geo News reporter Sohail Imran, there is a players’ management company registered with the PCB, in which Inzamam is reportedly a partner.
The company also involves other prominent players like Mohammad Rizwan (who is also a partner) and Babar Azam. This association led to concerns about the chief selector’s involvement in a company that secures contracts for players.
