Huawei has just unveiled its new smartphone, the Mate X5, and it’s creating quite a buzz. Interestingly, they skipped the Mate X4 because the number 4 is seen as unlucky in China.
This phone follows the Mate X3 and comes with some impressive upgrades inside, even though it still looks very similar on the outside.
Design and Display
The Mate X5 comes with a big 7.85-inch LTPO OLED main screen and a smaller 6.4-inch LTPO OLED cover screen, both of which have really sharp resolutions. They’re tough too, thanks to Kunlun Glass protection.
Huawei has added a smart antenna called Lingxi that uses AI to pick the best network for better connections. Plus, the antennas all around the device have a clever technology that makes your signal even better.
The Mate X5 is waterproof and can handle being submerged (IPX8). It can also send messages using BeiDou satellites in China.
Internals and Software
The newest Huawei foldable phone comes with some impressive specs. It has a maximum of 16 GB of RAM and a whopping 1 TB of storage space. Although Huawei hasn’t officially confirmed it, there are reports from China hinting that it might use the same Kirin 9000s processor that’s in the latest Mate 60 series. This processor is rumored to support 5G and is built using SMIC’s 7nm technology.
Cameras
The rear camera island features a slightly modified design, but the camera configuration remains unchanged. It includes a 50MP primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, accompanied by a 13MP f/2.2 ultrawide camera and a 12MP f/3.4 periscope module with 5x optical zoom.
