Apple is launching its iOS 18.2 update, reintroducing the volume slider on the iPhone lock screen, a feature that was removed with the iOS 16 release in 2022.
Previously, volume control was only accessible during AirPlay sessions. With this latest update, iPhone users can now easily adjust volume settings directly from the lock screen once again.
To activate this feature, users can go to Settings > Accessibility > Audio and Visual and enable the “Always Show Volume Control” option.
Once turned on, the volume slider will appear on the lock screen whenever headphones or Bluetooth devices are connected, as well as when using the iPhone’s built-in speaker.
Along with the return of the volume slider, iOS 18.2 brings new Apple Intelligence features, such as Genmoji, Image Playground, and the integration of ChatGPT into Siri and various writing tools across apps.
Another notable upgrade in iOS 18.2 is the Visual Intelligence feature, similar to Google Lens, which offers detailed information when users point their cameras at objects. This functionality allows users to read text from images and use location data for added context.
To use Visual Intelligence, users can press and hold the new Camera Control button on the lock screen, capture a photo, and instantly receive insights about the image. With these enhancements, Apple continues to improve the iPhone experience, making it more intuitive and user-friendly.
