In response to the prevailing harsh winter conditions, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has declared additional winter holidays for all primary schools, both government and private, in the region.
As cold weather tightens its grip on various parts of the country, the provincial Elementary and School Education Department has decided to extend winter vacations until January 13. This extension is a precautionary measure considering the severe cold and fog affecting the region.
The additional winter holidays apply to students ranging from playgroup to Class 5. Simultaneously, revised timings have been introduced for middle/primary, high, and higher secondary schools. The new schedule dictates that educational institutions will function from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm, deviating from the previous timings of 8:30 am to 2:30 pm.
These adjustments come as the Meteorological Office forecasts intense cold and fog in the plain areas of the province, including the provincial capital Peshawar, where the temperature has dropped to 1 degree Celsius. The expectation is that extreme fog will persist in areas such as Charsadda, Peshawar, Nowshera, and others in the coming days.
Similarly, the government in Punjab has also lengthened school holidays by an additional 10 days due to adverse weather conditions.
