Bushra Bibi, the wife of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan, has taken a legal step to ensure the safety and well-being of her husband while he’s in detention at Adiala Jail.
In her petition filed with the Islamabad High Court, Bushra Bibi named several high-ranking officials, including those from the Ministry of Interior, Ministry of Defense, and law enforcement agencies, as parties to her plea.
The core concern raised in the petition revolves around the fear that Imran Khan might face a risk of food poisoning during his time in jail. Bushra Bibi is deeply worried that he might be served tainted food, putting his safety in jeopardy.
The petition also brings to light allegations that Imran Khan hasn’t been granted the proper facilities he should have according to the jail manual. This, the petition argues, goes against constitutional provisions (Articles 9 and 14) that safeguard an individual’s rights.
It’s worth noting that Imran Khan has been denied the option of having home-cooked meals, a privilege that had been granted to other inmates previously.
The petition strongly urges the authorities to take immediate measures to guarantee Imran Khan’s safety and security while he’s incarcerated. It emphasizes the importance of providing untainted food, overseen by a responsible medical officer, as consuming contaminated food could pose a serious threat to his life.
Furthermore, the petition highlights that Imran Khan is currently an under-trial prisoner, which means he’s legally considered innocent until proven otherwise. Therefore, it calls on the court to issue orders ensuring that individuals in detention receive proper facilities as per the law.
