Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Sindh police announced on Tuesday that they have apprehended the alleged ‘mastermind’ behind the planning of the renowned Qawwal, Amjad Sabri’s killing.
Amjad Sabri, aged 45, was tragically shot while commuting from his residence in the Liaquatabad area to a television studio on June 22, 2016, when assailants on a motorcycle opened fire on his vehicle.
According to a spokesperson from CTD, Qasim Rasheed, an operative of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi, was apprehended while he was reportedly re-engaging in illegal activities shortly after being released from prison.
CTD further disclosed that Asim Capri and Ishaq Boby carried out the attack on Amjad Sabri under the instructions of Qasim Rasheed, who was incarcerated at the time.
Rasheed has purportedly confessed to his involvement in the killing of both security personnel and Amjad Sabri in his initial statement. Additionally, hand grenades and weapons were found in Rasheed’s possession.
It’s worth noting that the individuals convicted in the Amjad Sabri murder case, namely Ishaq and Asim, were each handed two death sentences by the court after being found guilty in a separate attack on an imam bargah in Karachi.
