ISLAMABAD – At least three individuals have been held as over multiple cases have been filed in connection with fires in Margalla Hills.
Firefighting is still happening, as confirmed by Islamabad’s top official to local media. Authorities are investigating the fire. CDA officials stressed their determination to hold those responsible accountable to safeguard the hills.
CDA’s environmental department caught the suspects where a fire had happened before and gave them to Islamabad police. The police then patrolled more in the Margalla Hills as the chairman ordered.
There was another fire at Margalla Hills National Park on Friday. The latest fire started near Kalenjar village and spread across the mountainous area.
Huge smoke clouds and flames were captured on camera. The fire started near Ghandian Kalanger area and in front of the E-9 hills. This is the latest in a series of fires in the area, following incidents earlier this week on Trail 3, Trail 5, and in Sector E-11.
Meanwhile, fire fighters, CDA officials rushed to the scene to douse the fire. Cliops captured by citizens showed smoke rising from the Margalla Hills, prompting concerns about the safety of the wildlife.
Margalla Hills Fire
Several fire incidents were reported this week, including two in Chiran Di Gali and Saidpur areas of the hills. It took firefighters, along with support from defense authorities and the Prime Minister’s Office, about seven hours to bring the flames under control.
The Margalla Hills National Park, spanning 12,605 hectares, is managed by the Capital Development Authority (CDA) and the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board (IWMB).
The Margalla Hills are experiencing a dangerous fire season due to frequent heatwaves. This year, 2024, has seen an unprecedented number of fires, which are largely fueled by climate change creating dry conditions and human carelessness.
