Starting now, wearing a helmet is mandatory for every motorbike rider in Punjab. The Lahore High Court, under the directive of Justice Shahid Kareem, has instructed authorities to impose a fine of Rs2000 on those who don’t comply.
This order comes after concerns raised by citizens, including petitioner Haroon Farooq. It emphasizes penalties for individuals who neglect to wear helmets while riding motorcycles.
Besides helmet enforcement, the court also addressed water conservation. Those who wash their cars at home will face a Rs5000 fine, aiming to encourage water-saving habits.
The Dolphin Police have been tasked with overseeing the implementation of these regulations, demonstrating a commitment to their enforcement.
In a bid to promote environmental conservation and urban planning, the court has also mandated a Rs5000 fine for those who park their vehicles on green belts. This move coincides with plans to establish more green spaces within the city.
Additionally, the court ruled that no project initiated by the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) can kick off without prior approval. The LDA has also been directed to seek guidance from the Environmental Protection Agency to ensure that development projects adhere to environmental standards.
The Lahore High Court’s order takes a comprehensive approach, addressing concerns about air pollution. It places strong emphasis on taking strict action against those responsible for emitting black smoke from older vehicles, including the possibility of criminal charges against officials who fail to act.
Furthermore, the order prioritizes the protection and preservation of older trees, underscoring the court’s dedication to environmental conservation.
