KARACHI: An anti-narcotics court on Wednesday handed death sentence to accused in a bid to smuggle drugs, channel reported.
The anti-narcotics court has given a death sentence to Qamar Mehmood. This decision comes after the prosecution successfully showed that he hid drugs in tractor tires to smuggle them out of the country.
The court acquitted co-accused Ateeq Rehman in the case.
Officials from the Anti-Narcotics Force conducted a raid at the Pakistan International Cargo Terminal. During the operation, they found 20 kilograms of heroin concealed in tractor tires within containers, according to the prosecution.
The case against Qamar Mehmood, Ateeq Rehman and other accused was registered in year 2016, according to prosecutor.
Accused Qamar Mehmood was also convicted in another case of drug smuggling in Lahore in 2014.
The anti-narcotics court has directed the cancellation of the export license of Ateeq Rehman, who assisted in the smuggling attempt. The court stated that he breached the conditions of the export license.
