The federal government has officially declared November 9th, which falls on a Thursday, as a public holiday in honor of Iqbal Day.
This day is observed throughout the country to commemorate the 146th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Mohammad Iqbal.
Dr. Iqbal played a pivotal role in motivating millions of Muslims in the sub-continent to aspire for an independent homeland where they could freely practice Islam. The day will begin with special prayers offered in mosques for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan.
Known as the “Poet of the East,” Dr. Iqbal was born on November 9, 1877, in Sialkot. He was not only a celebrated poet but also a philosopher. He is recognized for his poetry and his influential role in advocating for the establishment of a separate nation for Muslims.
His historic Allahabad address in 1930 marked a significant turning point in pre-partition politics. Allama Iqbal’s address provided a clear direction and distinct identity for Muslims in the sub-continent towards achieving Pakistan.
Additionally, a Change of Guards ceremony will take place at his mausoleum in Lahore to honor his legacy.
