As Muslims around the world celebrate Eid al-Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, Palestinians in Gaza face a somber holiday this year. With hundreds of thousands displaced and many in mourning, traditional activities such as visiting family, buying new clothes, and making Eid treats are beyond reach for most. The customary animal sacrifice, a significant ritual symbolizing sacrifice and providing food to those in need, is also difficult due to soaring prices.
Despite these challenges, several charities are working to send donations, food, and sacrificial meat to Gaza to support those in need:
Turkish Red Crescent
The Turkish Red Crescent is actively assisting Gazans by expanding its soup kitchen in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip, providing hot meals to 15,000 people daily. With the theme “Share Your Sacrifice with Your Brothers,” they aim to deliver donations to those in need this year.
Yardımeli Foundation (Turkey)
Yardımeli Foundation is organizing a sacrifice campaign with the theme “Sacrifices for Brotherhood, Saplings for Humanity.” They have announced the price of one share of sacrifice as TL 3,500 ($108) for Africa, TL 5,000 ($154) for Asia, TL 9,500 ($293) for Türkiye-Balkans-Lebanon (Palestine refugee camps), TL 17,500 ($540) for Palestine, and TL 11,750 ($362) for Gaza.
Palestine Red Crescent Society
The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) provides humanitarian aid and health services to Palestinians, guided by the Geneva Conventions and the principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement. Since 1968, PRCS has delivered healthcare and social services, employing thousands of staff and volunteers. This Eid al-Adha, Islamic Relief will distribute meat to those in need in Palestine.
Islamic Relief
Islamic Relief is providing vital humanitarian aid to Palestinian families in Gaza amid devastating airstrikes and a worsening humanitarian crisis. They are distributing essential items, including food, medicine, and medical supplies, and have provided over £15 million worth of aid and 16.6 million hot meals since October 2023. This Eid al-Adha, Islamic Relief will distribute meat among vulnerable people in Palestine.
Penny Appeal
Penny Appeal is actively working in Gaza to provide food assistance to hundreds of thousands affected by recent conflicts. Your Qurbani donation can provide high-quality meat to five families in need, often their only source of meat for the year. Building on last year’s success, Penny Appeal is committed to expanding its reach and supporting more families this year.
Human Appeal
This Dhul Hijjah, Human Appeal is conducting Qurbani in Gaza to support families struggling with extreme hunger. Your sacrifice will provide urgently needed nourishment to families who haven’t eaten meat in months, following the Prophetic tradition of Ibrahim (AS).
Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan
Alkhidmat Foundation Pakistan is a top charity for Qurbani in Palestine. Last year, they distributed Qurbani meat to deserving communities in Pakistan, Rohingya, Syria, and Palestine. This year, they are providing Qurbani meat to those in need in Pakistan and Gaza, where starvation is prevalent. They will conduct animal sacrifices in Gaza and transport meat from Pakistan to ensure effective distribution.
These charities are dedicated to making a difference in Gaza by providing essential support during Eid al-Adha, ensuring that even in these difficult times, the spirit of the holiday can be felt and shared by those in need.
