The caretaker government in Punjab is considering lifting the ban on issuing new arms licenses, which had been in place for the past 2 years. The Cabinet Committee on Legislative Business has given its approval for Punjab residents to apply for arms licenses. The formal approval from the Punjab cabinet is expected in the coming days.
Additionally, significant changes have been made to the fees associated with arms licenses. The All Pakistan Arms License fee has been reduced from Rs100,000 to Rs15,000. Obtaining a duplicate arms license will now cost Rs. 5,000, and fees for arms dealerships and other related charges have also been revised.
The government has taken steps to digitize the process of obtaining arms licenses, making it more efficient and secure. This move is aimed at curbing the possession of illegal weapons, which can result in imprisonment for up to seven years.
Here is a simplified guide on how to obtain a gun license in Punjab:
Step 1: Obtain the Application Form either online or from the DC Office or the Ministry of Interior.
Step 2: Fill out the Application Form with all the required information.
Step 3: Attach all necessary documents, including a copy of your CNIC, two recent passport-size photographs, a copy of the NTN Certificate (if you are a taxpayer), and a Certificate of Profession/Services (if applicable).
Step 4: Submit the completed application form, along with all required documents and the prescribed fee, to the Deputy Commissioner’s Office or the Ministry of Interior. You will also need to undergo a biometric process.
Step 5: After receiving approval, visit the Nadra Data Acquisition Unit (DAU).
Step 6: Obtain approval from the Assistant Manager and receive the slip.
Step 7: Receive your License and carefully review all the details.
These changes aim to streamline the process of obtaining arms licenses in Punjab, making it more accessible to residents while also ensuring greater control over the possession of firearms.
