ISLAMABAD – The price of sugar, a staple food item in Pakistan, has been reduced by Rs13 per kilogram at utility stores nationwide.
The Utilities Stores Corporation announced that the new price of sugar is now set at Rs140 per kg, effective immediately.
Sugar was previously priced at Rs153 per kilogram at utility stores.
This price reduction coincides with a period of decreasing inflation and favorable economic trends, as the government strives to guide the country in the right direction.
A day earlier, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb stated that Pakistan is progressing toward economic stability, thanks to the prudent policies implemented by the government.
Speaking at the 8th edition of the Future Summit in Karachi, the minister highlighted the reduction in the current account deficit, an increase in remittances, the stabilization of the rupee, and a decrease in the policy rate as clear indicators that the national economy is heading in the right direction.
Aurangzeb also noted that government measures have reduced inflation from 38 percent to single digits.
He mentioned that both short-term and medium-term policies are being developed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the economy.
Additionally, the minister emphasized the importance of reforms in government institutions to improve transparency, address gaps, and leverage technological advancements. He also stressed the need to “change the DNA of the economy” for lasting results.
