The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a warning regarding the development of a robust weather system in the southwest Arabian Sea.
According to the Cyclone Warning Centre’s alert, a well-marked low-pressure area (LPA) indicative of a strong weather system is situated in the southwest Arabian Sea, approximately 1810 kilometers southwest of Karachi and 1750 kilometers south of Gwadar, at a latitude of about 9.5 N and longitude of 61.5 E.
The PMD further stated that given the favorable environmental conditions, the system is likely to intensify, possibly evolving into a depression. A depression is characterized by unstable weather conditions, where rising air creates low pressure at the surface. This leads to cloud formation, resulting in cloudy and wet weather.
The potent weather system in the Arabian Sea is anticipated to track in a west/northwest direction towards the Oman-Yemen coast, as per the PMD. However, the department assures that none of the coastal areas in Pakistan are projected to be directly affected by this system.
While dry weather is expected across most parts of the country, the northern regions may experience cold weather along with light rain and thunderstorms over the upcoming weekend.
The PMD’s alert serves as a crucial early warning for potential weather-related developments, ensuring necessary preparations can be made to mitigate any possible impact. Citizens are advised to stay updated with official weather forecasts and advisories during this period.
