At the age of 87, Lionel Dahmer, the father of infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, passed away in January, according to an official from the Medina County Health Department.
Lionel Dahmer, who had pledged to support his son despite the gruesome details of his killing spree becoming public, passed away in a nursing facility near their home in Seville, Ohio, where he had been living with his second wife, Shari, who also passed away at the age of 81. The exact cause of Lionel Dahmer’s death was not immediately disclosed.
Living quietly in a rural Ohio community, Lionel Dahmer spent his final years away from public attention, still grappling with the horror of his son’s actions. According to Jeb, the caretaker of Lionel Dahmer, he remained upset about Jeffrey Dahmer’s horrific murders even during his time in prison. Jeffrey Dahmer was beaten to death by fellow prisoner Christopher Scarver in November 1994 at the Columbia Correctional Institution in Wisconsin.
Jeb, Lionel’s caretaker, shared that Lionel was angry about the circumstances of his son’s death, believing that the guards may have looked the other way. The mention of Scarver still stirred strong emotions in Lionel Dahmer.
Despite living a quiet life, Lionel Dahmer faced challenges from fans of the Netflix series “Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story,” with some displaying hostile and aggressive behavior. Fans would show up at his home, prompting the caretaker to arm himself, and signs were posted to deter trespassers.
Jeb recounted an incident involving a young woman who left a personal item in the driveway while shouting, “I love you, Lionel.” Lionel did not find the attention flattering, and measures were taken to discourage unwanted visitors. The caretaker emphasized the need to prevent such incidents and protect Lionel from unwarranted attention.
