In a deeply distressing incident in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district, a 12-year-old girl, who had been subjected to a horrifying assault, was captured on CCTV footage seeking help from door to door. She was visibly in pain, partially clothed, and bleeding. Shockingly, the footage revealed that no one came forward to assist her during the hour she spent wandering the area. Instead, one resident was seen shooing her away.
This heartbreaking incident comes shortly after India passed a bill aimed at granting women 33 percent of seats in parliament and assemblies. However, due to procedural complexities, experts suggest that it might be up to a decade before this becomes a reality.
Ujjain SP Sachin Sharma confirmed that a medical examination had confirmed the assault, and a special investigation team has been formed to handle the case. He urged the public to come forward with any information they may have.
The girl, unfortunately, was unable to provide her name or address. Police are working to establish how she ended up there and where the assault took place, utilizing the CCTV footage.
A case of rape against unidentified individuals has been registered, and the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act has also been invoked. Authorities are actively seeking her family and have initiated a technical investigation to trace vehicle movements and individuals in the area in an effort to identify the perpetrators.
Expressing his anguish at the incident, Congress leader and former Madhya Pradesh chief minister Kamal Nath called on Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan of the Bharatiya Janata Party to allocate Rs1 crore in relief to the victim and ensure severe punishment for the accused. He shared his sentiments on the social media platform, stating, “It is heart-wrenching to see a case of extremely cruel abuse of a small girl in Ujjain. The kind of rape that happened to a 12-year-old daughter and the way she ran around in many areas of the city in a semi-nude state and then fell unconscious on the road, puts humanity to shame.”
