Former Alrounder, Shahid Afridi, has replied to the statement made by BCCI Secretary, Jay Shah, regarding the security situation in Pakistan.
Recently, Jay Shah expressed concerns about the security situation, suggesting that there were reservations among various parties about holding the entire Asia Cup in Pakistan.
In response to this, Shahid Afridi took to his Twitter account and emphasized Pakistan’s track record in hosting major cricketing nations for bilateral series over the past six years.
He pointed out that Pakistan successfully hosted the ICC World XI in 2017 and the Sri Lankan team for a comprehensive series one year later. Afridi also noted that West Indies visited Pakistan for a bilateral series in 2019, and South Africa had been hosted recently, highlighting the country’s safety.
Afridi further highlighted that in the previous year, Australia, England, and New Zealand had all toured Pakistan and found the nation to be peaceful and secure. He also urged Jay Shah to consider sending the Indian cricket team, often referred to as the Men in Blue, to participate in the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025 as a gesture to improve relations between the neighboring countries.
I came across Mr @JayShah’s statement about security situation in Pakistan. Just to refresh his memory, Pakistan has hosted the following foreign players/teams in the past six years:
2017 – ICC World XI & SL
2018 – WI
2019 – WI (W), BD (W) & SL
2020 – BD, PSL, MCC & Zim
2021 –…— Shahid Afridi (@SAfridiOfficial) September 6, 2023
It’s worth noting that Jay Shah has faced criticism for choosing Colombo as the venue for the Super Fours Stage matches of the Asia Cup, despite the risk of heavy rain due to Sri Lanka’s current rainy season. Such weather-related challenges could not only harm the Asia Cup’s reputation but also result in losses for the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
