YouTube, a platform under the ownership of Google, is reportedly set to introduce mini games as a new feature, known as ‘Playables’. This feature aims to create a pocket arcade experience directly accessible from the homepage.
As of now, Playables is in the testing phase and is being tried out by a select group of beta testers. However, there hasn’t been any official announcement regarding when this minigame feature will be globally launched.
One example of these mini games is ‘Stack Bounce’, a game where players navigate a ball through a series of rings. Some users might already be familiar with this concept, as Google had previously introduced it on their now-discontinued GameSnacks service.
YouTube’s mini games feature is gearing up to compete with Netflix, which has already ventured into the gaming realm with a range of titles. Unlike Netflix, YouTube’s Playables will be accessible on both desktop and mobile platforms.
The feature will have its own tab located alongside regular content on the homepage. If you’re among the fortunate beta testers, you might already have access to it on your desktop and mobile devices.
Additionally, YouTube has introduced a new ‘History’ tab that allows users to save their game progress. This could hint at the potential release of more complex games in the future. It’s anticipated that YouTube will make these mini games, or the Playables feature, available worldwide once testing is complete.
