WhatsApp has been making improvements to how users share files. Recently, the messaging app introduced HD photo sharing for everyone.
Now, there’s news that WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is working on a new feature for Android users. This feature allows people to share files with nearby users. It’s similar to Apple’s AirDrop. The update, version 2.24.2.20, is currently in the Google Play Beta Program.
Although the nearby file sharing feature is not ready for testing just yet, a sneak peek reveals options like “Share files with people nearby,” a list of nearby users, and settings to control visibility.
Users can set themselves to be visible without showing their phone number to non-contacts. The feature also includes a privacy touch—nearby sharing will be end-to-end encrypted. This means the information stays private between the users involved.
