WhatsApp has finally rolled out an update that allows users to pin multiple messages in a chat simultaneously, a feature many have been eagerly anticipating. Previously, users were only able to pin one message per chat, which left many scratching their heads as to why such a restriction existed.
This long-awaited update, announced by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and WhatsApp head Will Cathcart, brings the ability to pin up to three messages in a chat. While this is a welcome improvement, it still falls short compared to other messaging platforms like Discord and Telegram, where users can pin unlimited messages.
With this update, users now have the freedom to pin various types of content including text, images, and polls. Pinning a message is a straightforward process – simply hold down the message you wish to pin to reveal a menu, then select the “pin” option. Tapping on a pinned message will swiftly navigate you to the original message, allowing for quick reference.
However, there are some limitations to consider. Users can choose to pin a message for 7, 24, or 30 days, but unfortunately, there’s no option for permanent pinning. After the specified duration, the pinned message will automatically be unpinned, which may inconvenience users who prefer long-term organization.
Additionally, group admins will have the authority to designate who can pin messages within a group. When a message is pinned, all members of the group will receive a notification, ensuring everyone is aware of important updates or announcements. However, it’s worth noting that users who joined the group after a message was pinned, as well as those without access to chat history, won’t be able to view the pinned message.
Overall, while this update represents a step in the right direction for WhatsApp, there are still areas for improvement to fully meet user expectations and align with the capabilities offered by competing messaging platforms.
