ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) announced on Saturday that temporary bandwidth had been added to the system following a fault in the AAE-1 submarine cable on January 2.
To mitigate the impact of the issue, PTA arranged and integrated additional bandwidth into the system. The authority reassured the public that there has been no degradation in internet services across the country due to this fault.
In other news, the PTA has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Huawei Pakistan to strengthen collaboration in the IT and telecom sectors. The agreement, which focuses on capacity building, technological innovation, cybersecurity, and digital inclusion, was signed by Ahmed Bilal Masud, Deputy CEO of Huawei Pakistan, and Muhammad Mukarram Khan, Director General of the PTA’s Cyber Vigilance Division (CVD).
The partnership aims to advance developments in 5G, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and the Internet of Things (IoT), while promoting secure digital infrastructure and bridging the digital divide. Chairman of PTA, Major General (R) Hafeezur Rehman, who witnessed the signing, remarked, “This MoU marks a significant milestone in Pakistan’s digital transformation, facilitating enhanced infrastructure and innovation for sustainable growth.”
Huawei’s Deputy CEO, Ahmed Bilal Masud, emphasized the company’s commitment to empowering Pakistan’s digital ecosystem and enhancing its technological capabilities. This collaboration aligns with Pakistan’s vision of a digitally empowered economy, ensuring equitable access to IT services across the nation.
