From Past two weaks, Huawei discreetly introduced three new phones in its Mate 60 series, all of which come equipped with 5G capabilities.
According to various sources from China, this move is being seen as the initial phase of a fresh strategic push into the global smartphone market.
According to insiders mentioned in a Chinese tech publication called IT Home, Huawei is getting ready to expand internationally after initially focusing on its home market in China. However, they haven’t revealed specific details about when this expansion will happen.

It’s important to note that Huawei has been caught up in a lengthy trade dispute between China and the United States for over five years. This has led to restrictions on Huawei’s access to most US technologies. Despite this, Huawei has recently introduced the Mate 60, Mate 60 Pro, and Mate 60 Pro+ smartphones with 5G capabilities, powered by the Kirin 9000S chipset, which is made using advanced 7nm technology.
Huawei hasn’t officially commented on the source of this chipset, but reports in China suggest that it’s entirely of Chinese origin. This has raised questions about how local companies acquired the expertise for such complex processes in a relatively short time.
In a significant development, Huawei has increased its annual production projection from 30 million to 38 million units. They have already shipped 20 million units, and the upcoming Mate 60 Pro models are expected to account for an additional 6 million units, which is roughly one-third of the remaining orders.
While there have been reports suggesting that the Mate 60 series might only be available in China, Huawei hasn’t confirmed this officially, leaving open the possibility of a global release.
Looking back, Huawei used to have a substantial 42% share of the Chinese smartphone market, but now it’s less than 10%. Globally, Huawei’s market share has plummeted to a mere 3%, which is a dramatic decline from its position in mid-2019.
