Starting February 5, 2024, the National Highway and Motorway Authority (NHMA) has implemented a new regulation, making M-Tag registration mandatory for all vehicles intending to use the extensive motorway network.
Enhancing Efficiency at Motorway Entry and Exit Points
The NHMA, in an official statement, highlighted that this decision aims to reduce waiting times at motorway entry and exit points. Previously, motorists faced queues to pay toll taxes, causing delays in their journeys.
Required M-Tag for Various Motorways
To access motorways, including the Peshawar-Islamabad-Lahore Motorway (M1), Pindi Bhattian-Multan Motorway (M4), Hakla-DI Khan Motorway (M14), Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), Multan-Sukkur Motorway (M5), and Hassanabdal-Mansehra Expressway (E35), all vehicles must obtain the M-Tag.
Simplified M-Tag Application Process
Motorists can acquire the M-Tag by visiting a customer care center with their vehicle registration book/card and CNIC. The National Highway and Motorway Police (NHMP) and the NHMA have issued advisories to guide motorists through the process.
Step-by-Step Guide to Obtain M-Tag
Step 1: Locate a nearby booth, typically situated near major toll plazas and service areas on motorways.
Step 2: Present your original CNIC and a copy of your vehicle’s registration certificate during the application process.
Step 3: Fill out the application form available at the booth, providing all the required information.
Step 4: Submit the completed application form along with the necessary documents to the booth attendant for verification.
Step 5: Upon approval, an M-Tag will be issued and affixed to the vehicle’s windshield.
Check Status and Recharge Balance
Motorists can conveniently check the status or recharge the balance of their M-Tag through the NHA’s One Network mobile phone application.
In summary, the introduction of mandatory M-Tag registration by the NHMA marks a significant step towards streamlining travel on motorways, reducing waiting times, and enhancing overall efficiency for the benefit of all motorists.
