As the scorching temperatures of Punjab rise, the provincial Education Minister has revealed the anticipated schedule for the upcoming summer break in schools and colleges. Following the pattern of the previous year, the vacation period is set to span over two months.
Traditionally, the summer break in Punjab kicks off in June and continues until August, aligning with the sweltering heat that often exceeds 40 degrees Celsius. According to weather forecasts, temperatures are expected to soar to 39°C in May 2024, with projections indicating a rise beyond 40°C in June 2024.
The slated commencement date for the summer vacation is June 7, 2024, with its conclusion marked for August 19, 2024, as confirmed by the Education Minister. An official announcement from the Education Department detailing the schedule is anticipated in the coming weeks.
In a prior advisory, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) issued a warning regarding the possibility of peak temperatures surging to 49.5 degrees Celsius in June. Additionally, August may see temperatures peaking at 48.63 degrees Celsius.
This proactive approach by the Punjab Education Minister aims to ensure the safety and well-being of students and faculty members amidst the challenging weather conditions expected during the summer months. By adhering to the designated summer break schedule, educational institutions can mitigate potential health risks associated with extreme heat, fostering a conducive learning environment for all stakeholders.
