As a severe cold wave maintains its grip on various regions across the country, the Meteorological Office has forecasted rain in Karachi and the southern part of Balochistan for today.
Officials from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) indicated the likelihood of showers in coastal areas, including the port city of Karachi and Makran, on Wednesday. The northern areas are expected to continue experiencing the cold wave, with temperatures remaining in the single digits. In Karachi, the temperature range for Wednesday is projected to be between 14°C to 24°C, with humidity at 45 percent and winds blowing at 9 km/h. The maximum UV Index recorded is 2, indicating low levels, and visibility is around 3 km.
Despite the cold weather, Karachi has ranked second in the world for the poorest air quality, as the Air Quality Index (AQI) crossed the 200 mark. Experts have raised concerns about the air reaching high pollution levels, categorizing it as unhealthy for sensitive groups. Individuals experiencing symptoms like difficulty breathing or throat irritation are advised to reduce their time spent outdoors.
The overall weather outlook for most parts of the country is anticipated to be mainly cold and dry, with very cold conditions in northern parts and north Balochistan.
In addition, dense fog/smog is expected to persist in the plain areas of Punjab, while fog/smog is likely in the plain areas of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh during night hours.
