As inflation continues to erode the purchasing power of the masses, the government is poised to deliver another blow by increasing petrol and diesel prices in Pakistan.
The South Asian country adheres to a fortnightly pricing mechanism for petroleum products, a shift introduced in September 2022 during the PTI government. Previously, petroleum prices were revised on a monthly basis. The current caretaker setup is set to announce the revised prices of petrol and diesel on the night of September 15, with the changes slated to take effect from September 16.
Reports suggest that the price of petrol could surge by Rs9.70 per litre, while diesel may see an increase of Rs11 per litre, spurred by rising global oil prices following Saudi Arabia’s announcement of a production cut.
As it stands, the current prices of petrol and diesel in Pakistan are Rs305.36 per litre and Rs311.84 respectively.
Anticipated Petrol and Diesel Prices from September 16 Should the reported increase be confirmed by the government, the new petrol price would be Rs315.06 per litre, and diesel would be priced at Rs322.84 per litre.
The government will make an official announcement on the night of September 15.
