Hannah Husain made history by being the first Pakistani to take part in the renowned Le Bal des Débutantes in Paris. This event, held every November, is a fancy ball and fashion show where about 20 to 25 young debutantes, aged 16 to 22, come together. What’s unique about Le Bal is that it’s the only debutante ball where participants are invited to attend.

This special occasion highlights present-day royals, young socialites, and philanthropists hailing from Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States, attending alongside their parents. Husain, who is representing Pakistan at the event, is the great-great-granddaughter of Sir Fazle Husain. He was a notable barrister, Education Minister, and the founder of the Unionist party in India. Furthermore, her great-grandfather held the position of the Pakistani Ambassador to Beirut, Lebanon, as reported by Harpers Bazaar Arabia.
Husain, accompanied by her brother Harris, proudly showcased beautiful designs from Georges Hobeika and Elie Saab at a glamorous event held at Shangri-La Paris, once home to Napoleon Bonaparte’s nephew. The star-studded occasion introduced six Asian debutantes, such as Advaitesha Birla, the great-great-granddaughter of GD Birla, who founded the Aditya Birla Group, and Skye Wong, hailing from the founders of the Bank of East Asia and Hang Seng Bank in Hong Kong.
The ball, organised by Ophélie Renouard, aims to raise funds for the cardiology research unit ARCFA of Necker-Enfants Malades Hospital, specializing in the care of children with heart defects worldwide, and World Central Kitchen, which provides meals to vulnerable communities during global crises.

In 1958, a social gathering began at the famous Château de Versailles, but it took a break in 1968 because of worker protests in France. Ophélie Renouard brought it back in 1992 as an exclusive fashion event. From 1992 to 2012, the renowned Parisian hotel, Hôtel de Crillon, was the venue, and people often called it the ‘Crillon Ball.’
Sure! The previous participants in debutante events include well-known individuals like Ava Phillippe (the daughter of Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Phillippe), Lily Collins, Ella Beatty, Viola Mikkelsen, and Sophia-Rose Stallone, who come from Hollywood royalty.
