Pakistan Railways (PKR) has announced a 5% increase in train fares starting from September 19, 2023. This decision is attributed to the recent surge in petroleum prices, as announced by the caretaker government from September 16, 2023. Currently, petrol is priced at Rs. 331.38, and high-speed diesel (HSD) at Rs. 329.18.
This marks the second fare adjustment by Pakistan Railways since August 2023. On August 17, fares for all passenger trains were raised by 10%, impacting various segments of the population, particularly laborers.

The fare increase will apply to all mail/express, intercity, saloons, and parcel services, except for short lead passenger and shuttle trains. This move aims to offset the rising costs associated with fuel, ensuring continued service provision for passengers across the railway network.
