ISLAMABAD – Pakistani ministers receive a monthly salary of Rs 200,000, while lawmakers of the National Assembly earn Rs 156,000 per month, according to recent revelations by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar during a Senate session.
Tarar provided details about the salaries, perks, and allowances of federal ministers. He noted that ministers do not receive official vehicles but are allotted a Rs 8,000 monthly allowance for bills. Additionally, ministers are provided with a 1500cc car and 400 liters of fuel each month, but they do not receive further official perks.
Tarar mentioned that many ministers choose not to claim their full salary. Earlier this year, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and his cabinet decided to forgo salaries and benefits as part of austerity measures aimed at reducing government expenditures and promoting fiscal responsibility. This decision reflects the prime minister’s ongoing commitment to prioritizing austerity.
