LAHORE – Punjab is currently experiencing a cold wave, and cities like Lahore have temperatures in the single digits. As a result, school kids are having a winter break and spending time at home.
The winter break for both government and private schools began on December 18, 2023, and was initially planned to finish on January 1, 2024. However, it got extended for an additional 10 days.
As temperature drops in early January are rare, there are rumours online, suggesting that winter holidays will be extended in Lahore and other parts of Punjab. Besides the online rumours, parents also demand the government to review schools opening as cold wave grips the region.
The government has lengthened the school break by one week ahead of schedule. As of January 4, 2024, there hasn’t been any official statement regarding extending the school holidays further.
Parents are advised to wait for any update from School Education Department about the much-anticipated decision.
Due to very cold winter weather, schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir have prolonged their winter break. In Azad Kashmir, the schools are scheduled to resume on January 15th.
Besides the extreme cold, air quality in Lahore and other cities also remained worse.
