Jared Leto, (born December 26, 1971, Bossier City, Louisiana, U.S.), American actor and musician who won an Academy Award for best supporting actor for his performance in Dallas Buyers Club (2013). He cofounded and led the popular alternative rock band 30 Seconds to Mars
Jared Leto got about 30 seconds closer to Mars on Thursday when he scaled an iconic New York landmark.
On November 9, the actor and singer embarked on a daring climb up the exterior of the Empire State Building, reaching the summit of this iconic skyscraper. Later, in an exclusive interview with TODAY, he shared his experience.
“I was more excited than nervous to tell you the truth,” Leto said. “But I have to be honest, it was very, very hard. It was a lot harder than I thought it would be.
“Just the endurance that it took, the stamina that it took, and it was very sharp.”
Leto, who’s 51, proudly displayed the proof of those distinct edges as he raised his bloody left hand.
He tried pulling off the stunt to check a major thing off his bucket list and drum up some buzz for his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars. They’ve got a world tour coming up from March to September in 2024.
“It’s incredible,” he said. “To watch the sun rise overlooking the city that’s meant so much to me. Ever since I was a kid, New York stood for the place that you went to make your dreams come true.
“And as a young kid, I wanted to be an artist, and New York was the place that you came to be an artist. And the Empire State Building was always that symbol for me.”
The star of “WeCrashed” scaled the eastern side of the building, making the climb from floors 86 to 104. It took him around 20 minutes to reach a height of nearly 1,300 feet. Leto made his way to the illuminated section of the building and then scaled all three tiers until he finished the climb at the ice shield, located at the base of the iconic antenna.
