In a concerning development, a Sikh activist named Gurmeet Singh Toor in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada, has reportedly received a warning from law enforcement about potential threats to his life. This disclosure came to light through a document titled “Duty to Warn,” which was made public by the pro-Khalistan activist group Sikhs For Justice.
Toor confirmed in an interview that on August 24, police from Surrey, British Columbia, along with the Integrated National Security Enforcement Team (INSET), visited his home and issued the warning. The document stated that the police had reason to believe his life might be in danger, though specific details of the threat couldn’t be provided at the time.
According to Sikhs for Justice, Toor holds a senior position at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara and was closely associated with Sikh activist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, who was tragically shot outside the same Sikh temple on June 18. After Nijjar’s tragic death, Toor became actively involved in campaigning for a non-binding vote in support of an independent Sikh state, known as Khalistan.
The World Sikh Organization of Canada, which advocates for Sikh interests, noted that Nijjar had spoken about threats to his life before his alleged murder and believed he was being targeted by India’s intelligence agencies. The organization further stated that several other Canadian Sikhs are also believed to be under threat and on Indian “hit lists.”
