World Cup 2023: Undefeated India who have already booked a semi-final spot thrash South Africa by 243 runs in a World Cup match in Kolkata on Sunday.
The South African cricket team had a tough time facing the strong Indian bowlers, losing five wickets for just 40 runs in 13.1 overs. Despite their reputation for fearless cricket, the Proteas struggled and eventually got all out for just 83 runs, marking their biggest defeat in this World Cup. The Indian bowler Ravindra Jadeja was the star, taking five wickets for 33 runs.
In the first innings, Rohit Sharma played aggressively and scored 40 runs off 24 balls, with eight boundaries, helping India reach over 90 runs within the first 10 overs. However, both opening batsmen, Sharma and Shubman Gill, were dismissed quickly, leaving the team at 93-2 in 10.3 overs.
Then, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer formed a crucial partnership of 134 runs, enabling India to score runs on a challenging pitch in Kolkata. Iyer contributed 77 runs off 87 balls, with nine boundaries, including seven fours and two sixes. Kohli, who was playing on his birthday, not only held the spotlight but also achieved a remarkable century, scoring 101 runs off 121 balls, which marked his 49th ODI century, equaling the legendary Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
Kohli stayed until the end, and in the final overs, he received support from Suryakumar Yadav, who scored 22 runs off 14 balls, and Ravindra Jadeja, who contributed 29 runs off 15 balls, helping India reach a total of 326 runs in the allotted overs.
