The T20 World Cup 2024 is nearing to end from the 20 teams at the beginning to coming down to the last four who will be playing in the semi-final on June 27 in the West Indies.
India has joined England and South Africa in qualifying for the T20 World Cup semi-finals, following a 24-run victory over Australia on Monday.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan secured their first-ever World Cup semi-final spot by defeating Bangladesh by 8 runs (DLS method) in the final Super 8 match on Tuesday. Chasing a revised target of 114 in 19 overs due to rain, Bangladesh were bowled out for 105 in 17.5 overs.
Despite opener Litton Das’s unbeaten 54 runs off 49 balls, Bangladesh couldn’t secure enough support from the other end. Rashid Khan and pacer Naveen-ul-Haq were instrumental in Afghanistan’s historic win, each taking four wickets.
The match, interrupted several times by rain during the second innings, kept fans on edge. Initially, Australia, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh all had a shot at the semi-finals. For Bangladesh to qualify, they needed to chase down 115 runs in 12.4 overs. Australia needed a Bangladesh win after 12.4 overs, and Afghanistan simply needed a victory. Ultimately, Afghanistan emerged victorious, clinching their place in the final four.
