KARACHI: People in different parts of Sindh, including Karachi, witnessed a mesmerising halo formed around the sun on Saturday (today).
According to meteorological analyst Jawad Memon, the coloured circles formed around the sun are called sun halos.
Memon explained that halos, which happen when light goes through ice crystals high up in the sky, often show up close to the sun or the moon.
What causes sun halo to appear?
The halo effect occurs when light bends and bounces off ice crystals, sometimes breaking into colors because of how it spreads out.
When you see a halo around the sun or moon, it often means that rain could come within the next day. This happens because the type of clouds that cause halos, called cirrostratus clouds, can mean that a weather front is on its way.
